That One Letter
I feel you, I know you, I can feel you inside of me.
I am waiting, Waiting for that silent call, Your call telling me to wonder home.
On the battlefield, Bullets rage around, As I try to get that one letter you sent. I feel it drawing me to you.
I trudged through water, I climbed desert dunes. I kept walking forward, Only to try to get to you.
You waited for a letter back, You waited for a call, You waited for me to come home.
I tried to reach, That one letter you sent, I tried to make it there in time.
Months had gone by, You thought I was dead, Until you saw those two men, Pull up in a black truck.
That’s when they gave you, The news that you thought right. You cried all that day, And some of tomorrow. You had no one there To wipe away your tears.
They said they found me dead with, That one letter in my hand, Holding to it for dear life.
They said I had a bullet to the chest, And died only moments after, I received that one last letter, You sent me on that one special Christmas Night.
