It smelt of manure; manure and sweat. Urine and sweat. Manure and urine. Once in awhile, the lovely scent of apples and carrots and oats and honey drifted through the barn; sometimes lavender was carried on the wind, but it didn't stay long. Not when there were ten horses waiting to be cared for- at least, ten that he was in charge of.
With a grunt, a hay stack was thrown into the air and it landed atop another cube of hay, sending up dust and bits of the yellow orange strings. He whiped his hands on his jeans; they were streaked with mud, horse spit, and a variety of other things the man did not wish to name. Why he had taken a job here, Hirsch did not know; but it did pay, and he did get to ride horses. Contrary to popular opinion, Hirsch didn't mind animals- he may have vile thoughts now and then considering them, but only when he was around irritating people; overall, they kept him calmer then normal.
Horses were not his specality, though.
A large chesnut stallion stretched out its neck and head butted him in the shoulder, causing Hirsch to stumble forward. His eyes flashed and he spun around, "No!" he chided, though the word was negative, his tone was free of all anger. Working with horses required patient- a positive attitude. For the sake of these innocent beings, Hirsch could adopt it.

Annelise walked up behind the man and instintly recognised him. She had seen him before. "Need some help there?" She asked as she poured a bucket of water into a trough for a horse in a pen. The horse immediately heard the water splash around on the hard wooden surface and decided to trot on over.
The horse lapped at the water and then Annelise took the bucket and set it by the gate of the same horse pen she had dumped the water in. She put one leg up on the fence and looked at the man, waiting for a reply.
Annelise wore light colored jeans that were caked with dirt at the bottom and had water splashes and mus stains all over them. She wore a black blouse with dust prints all over it too. She had black riding boots on and then also had a cowboy hat on that was made of leather. She chewed her gum as she took her black sunglasses off and clicped them to the side of her pant pocket.

"Need some help there?"
The voice came from behind Hirsch and he turned slightly, reconizging Annelise with ease; boy, should she feel proud about herself, if she knew how easy he reconizged her; considering Hirsch didn't want to kill her, it was amazing. "Yeah, help would be nice. Friggin people who are supposed to be helping me decided it was a wonderful time to take break. Yeah, wonderful. Early spring," Hirsch snorted ill temperedly before removing a sugar cube from his pocket and handing it to a dappled grey horse, which had been waiting patiently for him to put water in its trough, "Good pony," he murmured as he poured the water in.
The liquid sloshed around, some spilling onto the boots he wore, though Hirsch honestly didn't care anymore if these damn clothes got full of shit or not.

Annelise smiled and walked over to the man and pet the horse he was tending. "Who's a good horse?" She asked it as she sat on the fence. She went over to the man's other side and dumped a bucket of water into its trough as it splished and splashed every where.
Annelise shoved a bit of hay into the pen as she pet the top of the horse's head. "Good pony," She said as she started to walk to the other one. She repeated the same process and then came back to the man. "Funny how we run into each other isn't it?" She asked him smiling and cocking her head. "How many more you have left for today?" She asked him talknig about the horses. She hoped he knew that's what she meant at least.
