The lion wandered through the clouds of flowers overflowing the edges of the field, the brilliant drifts parting to let his massive frame through. It was a sunny day. Mother's Day. The boy sat down on a rock in the middle of the field that was surrounded on all sides by the blooms, like a rock surrounded by a calm sea. A knarled tree overshadowed the bulky piece of stone, it's shadow the only refreshement from the blazing sun. Do I even have a mother? Nat thought, staring up at the clear skies. And if I do, where is she? Would she be proud of me? Not after that day . Nat sighed. Even that shifter thought you were a coward. He shifted back into his lion form and rested his head on his paws. Money was becoming hard to come by, and faint lines showed his ribs. He normally would hunt, but there had been sightings of a great winged tiger near the forests (apparently) so the humans had been on edge all week. He could no longer go there without risking being shot. As the spring breeze blew into his eyes and ruffled up his mane, he thought he saw a reflection of silver coming from the copse, but he dismissed it as sun bouncing off a puddle. Two larks skydanced in the air above his head, singing their eternally joyous song. Nathaniel imagined strong white wings bursting out of his shoulder blades, beating the air, carrying him towards the light....

------------------------------------------------------------------- Fiona crept into the field and saw the other large animal: a lion. Fiona narrowed her eyes as she tried to zero in on the animal. She was curious, but she wasn't so curious that she would try to get herself killed. She was almost killed every night by her parents as they beat her.
Fiona was a powerful Snow Leopard, but she was very weak in her shit form because all of the bruises and cuts on her human form. She didn't have much energy to shift, but she shifted back to a human and layed low in the flowers, hoping the other animal didn't notice her.
When Fiona shifted, it wasn't like anyone elses shift. Her shift didn't make a sound and it was green light and not any color like blue, red, or anything else that would stick out. Her body was covered in sparks and she turned to human once again like the many other times before.
It would be rare that you caught Fiona out of her human form. She hated shifting, but sometimes it could be useful, especially if you're running away.
Fiona also had a few cuts and bruises now. She had an eye that was purpl from where her father punched her, but now it was starting to heal slowly. Little at a time. Her black eye really stood out along with her other bruises on her pale white skin.
Her black hair was flowing in the wind and she wore black skinny jeanes, a dark, dark green shirt, and black shoes. She wore a black vest over her green shirt and had a necklace that was a black medalion. The necklace could spin if she wanted it to, but it had greek symbols on it that she had no idea what meant. All she knew about the necklace is that it was given to her by her real mother.
Fiona has a tatto under her eye that also stuck out on her pale white skin. It was like a glowing star but one black then another green one still on top of it, but showing the black one. She wore dark green eye shadow and nothing else. She had black painted nails that also stood out on her skin.
Fiona crept up beside a tree and ten got up and started running. She ran up to the lion and behind the tree. She had been crying earlier so her eyes were water along with her black eye, but her cheeks were wet and that revealed a bit about her life.

Nathaniel snapped out his dream. Footsteps sounded behind him, and he could sense another's presence in his mind. Lion eyes met human. They stared at each other warily. The girl had been crying, and there were purplish bruises on her arms and face. Nathaniel turned back to where he was facing, breaking the hostile gaze, and in a hoarse, unused voice asked 'Do you ever wish you could just leave you problems behind, and just...go?' He knew it was an odd question, but he didn't care. In his mind, he no longer cared about much any more. Coward..coward...coward The word beat like a drum beat in his mind, nearly matching the hunger aching in his belly in intensity. He had thought the girl hadn't thought he was a coward, but later that night he had remembered her expression. The swallows were still soaring. Why couldn't he soar with them? ------------------------------------------------------------------- Fiona looked up at the sky as she came out from behind the tree. She went over to the front of the lion and sat criss cross. "Yes," She said so matter-of-factly. That's exactly how she felt.
"What happened to you, hmm?" She asked the lion shifter as she pet his head with her velvety soft skin.
She had a gentle touch, but knew how to be violent if she wanted. She had seen a lot of violence in her life. She went thorugh it everyday.
Fiona looked down at the ground and in the dust took her finger and started to carve Greek symbols. She spelt out her name in Greeek letters on the ground in the brown dust and dirt.
The field was well fertilized and the soil was mushy and perfect for te flowers of all colors that grew here.

Nat turned his eyes on her for the second time. 'Don't ask...' he asked. For the first time he wondered who the girls was, but he kept his question to himself. His eyes grew clouded as he thought about the last time he had had something to eat. 'You got anything to eat on you?' he said, smiling his trademark wonky smile for the first time. He knew he looked terrible, but he didn't care until he got something to eat. The long scar that ran the length of his ribs thanks to the Lycan stood out horribly against his shaggy, matted pelt and his mane had lost it's golden shimmer. Untill things picked up, he was never going to look his best. Muse-Foundations by Kate Nash Muse-Foundations by Kate nash Nat normally worked whatever jobs he could find, but any work around the town was snapped up by other people-even the dangerous ones.
